Specially for a rainy day, I saved the visit to Zofingen (Aargau/Switzerland) – what a mistake!
The Swiss midlands were covered with Roman estates, so-called Villa Rusticas. A very large Villa Rustica apparently stood in Zofingen [Google Maps Link]. By chance the Roman estate was found in Zofingen in 1826. During excavations two very large mosaic floors were discovered. Later two shelters were built, which look like Greek temples. The building, which originally stood here, looked completely different. From this one, however, one sees almost nothing more.
In the two buildings you can see three mosaic floors, which are almost completely preserved. I could not take away any knowledge for the game after the visit, but nevertheless the floors were very impressive to look at.
Yes, and what do the mosaic floors look like? I don’t want to reveal that here. The goal of the game is not only to sit at the computer, but also to go out into nature and visit the buildings in the original.
IS IT WORTH A VISIT?
The floors, although very large and very well preserved, consist of repetitive patterns, which does not allow one to discover much that is exciting. A few artifacts are also displayed in small showcases. From the Villa Rustica you can see practically nothing.
Still, it’s worth a visit if you go to see the old town afterwards. Since I went on a rainy day, the whole thing was not so great. However, the old town seemed extremely dressed up and is not as cramped as other old towns I have seen so far. Definitely worth seeing in combination with a visit to the old town.
