Roman Museum Schwarzenacker

Inspired by the Roman Museum Schwarzenacker (Germany) and the open-air site Petinesca (Switzerland)

The Schwarzenacker Roman Museum is located in a beautiful area of western Germany. Location: [Google Maps Link].

As this is a museum, I am not allowed to show photos here (copyright).

The museum displays some Roman exhibits on the first floor. When you pay for your ticket (in the main building), you get a chip so that you can also visit the outdoor area, which is absolutely worth seeing. In the park, you will find a replica of a Gallo-Roman temple. The Gallo-Roman culture developed during the time when the Romans Romanised Gaul (France, Switzerland, etc). Since the Romans also tolerated other gods and beliefs, the so-called Gallo-Roman culture was able to develop.

Based on the replica of the temple in the Roman Museum and my earlier visit to the Roman settlement of Petinesca (Switzerland), I created a Gallo-Roman temple that you can also build as a player in the game.

At the back of the museum is a partially reconstructed complex of Roman dwellings. You can see the sewage systems and a reconstruction of a row of houses very well. There is a reconstructed tavern where you immediately feel transported back to times long past.

You can also see some replicas of bread ovens, which I will also include in the game as decorative elements. These will be found in the backyards of simpler buildings.

IS IT WORTH A VISIT?

Absolutely. The museum is rather small, but the outdoor area is impressive. The Gallo-Roman temple and the reconstructed buildings are absolutely worth seeing. The sewage pipes and the excavated cellars are also worth seeing. It’s a rather small site, but definitely worth a visit.
