In a scene of the film Gladiator [Wikipedia article click here], there was a small training arena where people fought. The film inspired me: as a player, you should also be able to build such an arena!
In the era in which the game starts, theatres and arenas made of wood were widespread. Unfortunately, I was never there myself, but such a wooden arena can be seen in Carnuntum, near Vienna.
Only little information about wooden arenas could be found. However, the training arena in Carnuntum should serve as an inspiring example.
As of January 2021: Whether the arena served as a training arena for gladiators or was used as an entertainment building is not yet known. In any case, the sun sails will be much more dynamic and not as stretched as in this picture
Other buildings such as Roman theatres but also circuses where chariot races took place are also planned as wooden versions. Because not every player will be able to afford a big circus made of stone and marble. 🙂
But what about the gladiators? Will they also be seen? That would be desirable. At the moment, they are not yet built. Since I don’t model them myself but commission them externally, I have to save some money first. If there is a lot of demand and interest in the gladiators, then I will certainly install them.
